SOST

SOST unfolds across three levels, hosting hospitality, music, and culture within an ambient environment. Rooted in the Black and African Diaspora, community and connection are cultivated within where hand-applied plaster, dark walnut, reed partition glass and brass accents set the stage while custom tilework and textured upholstery evoke depth and intimacy. Organic finishes are balanced with industrial elements to align with the nuanced programming that transitions from daytime to evening.

Dynamic lighting design is calibrated with burnt sienna and ochre hues to subtly reference the Ethiopian and Eritrean landscapes. A feature circular color-changing fixture guides guests through distinct yet interconnected experiences—from the vinyl café to the intimate restaurant and rooftop lounge. Inspired by vinyl culture and analog sound, the space embraces soft curves, geometric detailing, and atmospheric transitions. Mixed seating configurations, accommodating both intimate gatherings and larger social settings. Imparting warmth and cultural resonance, SOST transforms what was a former Ethiopian community center into a contemporary gathering space, where past and present meet through thoughtful materiality and spatial storytelling.
