HQ DC House is a dedicated multicultural members-only house spanning three floors within the historic 1861 Oriental Building in the Penn Quarter neighborhood. Designed for flexible programming and multicultural activations, the venue is configurable to host a range of activities.

Architectural sensitivity was exercised to honor the original Renaissance Revival style of the building that was originally designed by Albert Goehner. The intervention sought to frame moments throughout the space. A white form, made from drywall, was injected to sit inside of the historical brick container. It highlights curvilinear recessing on the ceiling and arches cut out along the windows so as to mirror the original architecture of the exterior façade. Existing characteristics such as the original brick, oak paneled floor and terracotta ceiling were deliberately exposed to showcase the blending of old and new.

To create an atmosphere of luxury, the 9000 sf clubhouse was styled with eclectic furnishings. Materials such as extruded walnut panels were used to highlight the bar, kitchen and the corridor wall; quartz granite was selected for the countertops; terrazzo tile was used on the bathroom floor; and glass enclosures form office spaces.
